The health and educational sectors are most affected by these inadequacies. As a result, there have been several cases of wrong diagnosis, misdiagnosis and poor teaching methods in schools. International Basic Aid is dedicated to instilling competency in individuals from impoverished countries to enable them to fulfill their jobs to a greater capacity and render professional services to people in need. With the aim to provide a long-term solution to third world problems, our organization will focus on different approaches to provide capacity building services. First, we will provide access to repositories of information and resources (for example, databases, libraries and web sites). We will also offer updated publications relevant to the educational and health sectors. Our team of specialized professionals will facilitate trainings (public, customized or online), consultations (coaching, advising or research) and coordination alliances. Many small children’s hospitals located in rural communities receive very few donations and attention during the Holiday season. Donate Now The Holiday Gift program is a unique program that ignites the goodwill of the community to provide hope and help for poor and vulnerable individuals and families during the holidays. The lean budgets of poor families don’t stretch far enough to give holiday gifts or hold celebrations with each other. What should be a joy-filled time spent making family memories can be an anxiety-inducing experience that causes financial hardship. At International Basic Aid, we are focused on warming the hearts of poor and vulnerable individuals and families at the time of year when they need it most. With your donation, we can begin our work. We have a group of volunteers who put the packages together and our caring staff will make the deliveries. This means that every dollar you donate goes directly towards the cost of a gift and the possibility of hope. --- ### Child Welfare > Help vulnerable children thrive through child welfare programs, offering protection, care, education, and brighter futures for those in need. - Published: 2021-01-04 - Modified: 2025-05-06 - URL: https://basicaid.org/child-welfare/ What We Do Child Welfare The International Basic Aid Child Welfare Program works to ensure children around the world have a chance at a healthy, safe and fulfilling life. According to reports by the USAID, 15,000 children lose their lives every day because of preventable causes. In 2011, UNICEF reported that 150 million children aged 5-14, in developing countries, were subjected to child labor. According to the International Labor Organization, 60% of child workers work in agriculture. Donate Now Each year, millions of children around the world are trafficked for commercial purposes. The percentage of child trafficking has risen from 20% to 27% in the last three years. Out of every three trafficked children, two are girls. Most victims of trafficking are either run-away children or children from poor and vulnerable communities. Traffickers take advantage of the vulnerability and innocence of children to lure them into sexual exploitation. Children are the future of the world, and the loss of even one life robs the world of its full potential. Our organization intends to work in over 50 countries to save children’s lives, protect their rights and help them find fulfillment from early childhood through adolescence. We focus on advocating for children’s rights and pushing for policies that protect children. Additionally, we are committed to meeting the health needs of children around the world by providing access to proper preventative care. --- ### Health Care > Help us deliver vital medical aid and services to underserved populations. Through family planning, nutrition, malaria and mother-and-child health programs, International Basic Aid is committed to preventing mother-and-child deaths in countries with the biggest gaps in women and child healthcare. Combined, these countries contribute to two-thirds of maternal and child deaths worldwide. Donate Now Reducing New HIV Infections International Basic Aid seeks to position itself at the forefront of the HIV crisis. Our aim is to support country-led initiatives and apply science, technology and innovation to encourage sustainable implementation and cost-effective HIV/AIDS interventions. With the help of lifesaving antiretroviral drugs, many people living with HIV/AIDS can live longer without infecting their HIV-negative partners. But for many families in places like Gaza, Sudan, and Pakistan, hunger doesn’t end at sunset. At Basic Aid International, our Feed the Fasting campaign helped bridge that gap — ensuring that no fasting family went without a proper iftar meal. What We Provided With your generous support, we distributed ready-to-eat iftar meals and essential dry food packs throughout Ramadan, reaching: Displaced families in Gaza, where access to food remains limited due to ongoing conflict Communities in Pakistan and Sudan, where rising food costs have made even basic ingredients unaffordable Each pack was carefully prepared with cultural and nutritional needs in mind — providing rice, lentils, oil, flour, and dates for iftar. “Thanks to your donations, we were able to break our fast with dignity,” shared a father of five in Khartoum. Ramadan May Be Over — But Hunger Isn’t While Ramadan has ended, the need for food support hasn’t. That’s why our Food Packs Program continues to operate year-round, targeting areas most affected by poverty, displacement, and inflation. Our recent post, Feeding Hope – Distributing Food Packs Where They’re Needed Most, details how this ongoing program continues to feed families long after Eid. But for orphaned and underprivileged children in countries like Pakistan and Sudan, the return to school isn’t always so joyful. Many lack even the most basic resources needed to learn, grow, and succeed. At Basic Aid International, our Back to School campaign aims to change that. Why School Supplies Matter For children from low-income families or those who have lost one or both parents, the inability to afford school uniforms, shoes, bags, or stationery can be a barrier to education. This isn’t just about supplies — it’s about self-worth, confidence, and opportunity. With your support, we provide: School uniforms Backpacks Exercise books and stationery Shoes and hygiene kits These essentials help children feel ready to learn and proud to be students. “When I received my uniform and bag, I felt like I truly belonged in school,” said 10-year-old Hassan, a recent recipient in rural Pakistan. Where We Work Our Back to School program currently operates in: Pakistan – Supporting children in remote and underserved areas Sudan – Providing resources amid economic hardship and displacement Gaza – Assisting children impacted by ongoing conflict Each package is thoughtfully tailored to meet local school requirements, ensuring students are well-prepared from day one. Food security prevents families from going to sleep hungry or living in fear of hunger. Food insecurity generally arises from poverty and can seriously impact a family or community’s ability to develop in the long term. Prolonged malnutrition leads to cognitive impairment, stunted growth in children and also increases one’s susceptibility to disease. Every single day, more than 800 million families go to bed without a meal. Most of them are small-scale farmers who depend on agriculture to feed their families. Investing in the growth of agriculture, especially in rural areas, is an effective way to alleviate poverty. With a fast-growing population, which is expected to hit 9 billion by 2050, investing in small-scale agriculture will increase food production and consequently mitigate food insecurity. Teaching small-scale farmers about productive methods of farming and assisting them to maximize produce using the land available will one day enable millions of families to put food on the table. School closures, social distancing and confinement increase the risk of poor nutrition among children, their exposure to domestic violence, increase their anxiety and stress, and reduce access to vital family and care services. Widespread digitalisation mitigates the education loss caused by school-closures, but the poorest children are least likely to live in good home-learning environments with internet connection. Furthermore, increased unsupervised on-line internet use has magnified issues around sexual exploitation and cyber-bullying. “The knock-on impacts of Covid-19 are far more widespread than the virus itself, pushing millions of the world’s poorest people deeper into hunger and poverty. It is vital governments contain the spread of this deadly disease, but they must also prevent it killing as many – if not more – people from hunger,” said the chief executive of Oxfam GB, Danny Sriskandarajah. Immediate government measures need to ensure that children have access to good food, receive protection against child abuse and neglect, have continued access to child physical and mental health services, and can navigate safely on the internet. Policies also need to support parental employment since it is key to fighting child poverty. Travel restrictions were also hitting food supplies by preventing farmers from hiring workers and small-scale producers from accessing their own fields.   Read our other Blogs for updates     --- ### Facts About Hunger In developing countries > Explore eye-opening facts about hunger in developing countries. (Photo credit: Fonkoze) Outside of sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean has the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS infections globally, a fact that too often seem to fly below the radar of both regional governments and the international community. Africa, which shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic, has the most cases overall — an estimated 130,000, out of a population of just under 11 million. Approximately 74,000 of infected Africans are women and 9500 are children, 14 years and under. The impact of the disease on women, and the consequence of so many orphaned children, is one more factor complicating the country’s efforts toward economic and social stability, and poverty eradication. Approximately 59 percent of Africans live in poverty and almost one-quarter in extreme poverty, close to 40 percent do not know how to read or write, and only one in four have access to a toilet. Such conditions erect serious barriers to appropriate care and containment of infectious diseases. The scale of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in Africa are both a contributor to, and a consequence of individuals and communities living in poverty. The burden of disease is... --- ### Hundreds of thousands of African children suffer in slavery > Hundreds of thousands of African children suffer in modern slavery. Her silhouette was boldly present against the sunlight behind her and the pale, dusty haze that swirled around her. She was carrying a huge bag on her left shoulder, and her body contorted to support its weight. She wore a worn-out denim skirt with a brown vest top, and her hair was in untidy knots. Her appearance was in sharp contrast to the pristine, smiling schoolchildren I’d just watched walk by. I realised in that moment I might be looking at one of Africa’s domestic child slaves, locally known as “restavèk”. Forced labour is a worldwide phenomenon affecting around 25m people, of which 4. 3m are children. Unlike child labour, which involves minors working in a range of circumstances, forced labour involves children being coerced by someone other than their parents. Sometimes, as is the case for restavèk children in Africa, they are forced to perform tasks that are hazardous to their health, safety, and development. Children live in a world that has been moulded by the adults around them. It is therefore necessary to look to those responsible for children and those implicated in their trafficking and enslavement to understand the root causes of child slavery and formulate solutions. This is why I was in... --- ---
